Troy now practices as Schaum Architects and teaches at the Rice School of Architecture.

We founded Schaum/Shieh in 2009 as a conversation and platform to engage the mutual exploration of place and site through building, first through speculation and installation, then on real sites in Detroit, Marfa, Taiwan, Houston, and elsewhere. A shared goal of Schaum/Shieh has been to address architectures on the disciplinary periphery and to engage building practice as a source for imagination.

As a capstone to this collaborative project, we co-authored Blanking: An Annotated Archive of Projects and Thoughts on Architecture (Park Books, 2025). In this volume, we sought to offer a response to a question that has been central to our collaboration: How does an architectural practice produce knowledge?
