The Shepherd School is housed in a 1991 Neoclassical Ricardo Bofill building punctured by two 60’x60’ courtyards. In this project, the two courts are taken as a pair of contrasting environments: one is outdoors and casual, and the other is interior, flexible, and suitable for quiet entertainment and festive planning. The interior courtyard is enclosed by a glass canopy that diffuses light during the day, and opens up to the night sky. A gently sloped ground can be filled with water to adjust the space to the event, and a field of orange trees organizes seating and gives the sense of an urban garden.
